2009

2009 was my most memorable   commercial aircraft accidents.. I know that small planes go down everyday in some part of the world, some are accidents some are incidents and luckily people survive. But back in 09, It all began on January when  US Airways 1549 an A320 lost thrust in both engines and the airplane glided down to the New York, Hudson river. With no power to keep the plane moving forward, the Bay Area's own Captain Sully Sullenberger saved 155 life's . Then came February and Colgan 3407 a Q400 went down on Buffalo, New York,  killing everyone on-board. Colgan/ Continental Connection 3407 was the most recent commercial airplane crash in US soil, until Asiana 214 Heavy. And both Asiana 214 and Colgan 3407 have something in common, the stick shaker. Both received a stall warning prior to impact. Later on, May 31/ June 1 Air France 447 an A330  crashed on the Atlantic Ocean, it also went down because a stall, a high altitude stall. And it was the mysterious one, it took the investigators nearly two years to find the black boxes, the key to the answers. They said that to find those recordings, data and voice (black Box), was like to find a shoe box in an area as big as France . I really don't know about that, could the A330's debris traveled that far with the ocean currents... It was mysterious in the beginning, and those nearly two years were unforgettable. I think, everyday I checked on Aviationherald to find any answers, until 2011.

2009 was the year I got to follow those disasters, first hand. Back then 1990's- early 20's the US had other aviation crashes, but never could I have understand. Every year different countries are involved in commercial aircraft disasters. But, 2009 was my eye opener. It took me from thinking that no more commercial accidents in US, to, flight crews have some sleep, train well, and birds out of the way. It's very difficult to know what's next on the line, but all the innovation that the aircraft companies along side others make for safety is good.
All the Technology in the world is good, but it's only good for certain things.
